Dr Sitoh Yih Yiow is a geriatrician with a special interest in dementia, sleep disorders in the elderly, falls and osteoporosis as well as impaired mobility in the elderly. He has been involved in the establishment of clinical practice guidelines in dementia, falls and osteoporosis, and he is currently a member of the Chronic Disease Management Programme Clinical Advisory Committee for Dementia, Ministry of Health.
Dr Sitoh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1991. He obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1996 and was awarded a Higher Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) fellowship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2000, during which he had the privilege of working as a clinical fellow with the Institute of Bone and Joint Research of the University of Sydney, and the Bernard Curran Rehabilitation Unit of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Services of Northern Sydney. He went on to complete his Specialist Certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training & the Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2001.
Dr Sitoh is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YYLSoM), National University of Singapore. He has been actively involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in different aspects of Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine, and has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the Outstanding Tutor Award, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for Academic Year 2014/2015 and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine 2015/2016. He has also been involved in the re-formatting and implementation of the Geriatric Medicine curriculum in the school, and continues to be involved in the revision of the medical education curriculum in YYLSoM.
A firm believer in continuous professional education, Dr Sitoh completed his Masters in Sleep Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2014 and obtained his LLM in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh in 2019. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitration and is now pursuing training in mediation with the Singapore Mediation Centre. He is also a member of the Chapter of Medical Experts, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
He has an active interest in clinical research into different areas of health concerns affecting older persons and has published widely in local and international journals, concerning a range of topics that include dementia, swallowing problems, falls and osteoporosis as well as concerns pertaining to health services. He has also been an invited reviewer in both local and international peer-review journals.
Dr Sitoh is a member of the Society for Geriatric Medicine, Singapore, the Australian Society for Geriatric Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Geriatric Society. He presents regularly at local and international scientific meetings organized by these professional bodies.
